Inter-Medical University Board that includes all VCs and rectors of respective medical institutes of Pakistan has unanimously concluded a decision that students of medical and dental institutions of Pakistan have to undergo exams in order to promote in next class. This decision was taken in board meeting that was presided over VC Prof Javed Akram at the University of Health Sciences, Lahore.
The board has decided that failing students shall not be promoted to next classes with grace marks rather board has decided to conduct supplementary examination after Eid that were forced to be postponed in the light of Corona pandemic in the country. Examination will be carried out under strict observation of SOPs including social distancing.
The outcome of meeting points show that academic session is already delayed, therefore, further delay cannot be accepted and examination shall be carried out on its scheduled timeline i.e. October 2020. The VC emphasized on cancellation of exams will affect quality of medical education in institutes of Pakistan and that cannot be afforded the board. The board agrees to keep online medium of lectures for students in the light of Covid-19 outbreak.
The board members also emphasized on conducting intermediate exams by respective boards and that universities should carry out medical and dental entry tests (MDCAT) following the SOPs issued for educational institutes.
